Taxi Driver Medicals

Secure a quick and easy taxi medical from #HEALTH

All taxi drivers need a medical assessment before they can be given their license to operate. This is to ensure that they are in suitable health for driving with passengers on public roads. Taxi driver medicals are also an ongoing requirement with rechecks being needed. No matter whether you’re just starting out as a taxi driver or are just keeping up to date with your medicals, #HEATH  can make the process smooth and hassle-free.

How long does a taxi medical last and what does it involve?

A valid taxi medical will last five years. A valid certificate is a legal requirement to drive a taxi and you must get this renewed after this time or you will not be able to continue driving a taxi until this is resolved. The medical itself will be conducted by a qualified GP who will ask you about your medical history and any medical issues you may have a simple examination which will include an eye test will be required.

What should you bring to your taxi medical?

If you have been provided with a medical questionnaire you should bring this to your appointment. A list of your medical conditions and medications from your GP or access to the NHS app will help your clinician to assess your health. Also, if you are required to wear hearing aids, glasses, or contact lenses, these should also be brought with you. You will need to bring

Passport

Utility Bill (such as gas or electricity) that is less than 3 months old

National Insurance card

Driving Licence

Birth Certificate

How often do taxi drivers need a medical?

A taxi driver medical must be renewed every five years until the age of 65. From this point they will need to be renewed every year until retirement.
